Hard Hittin’ Songs II

“A picture–you buy it once, and it bothers you for forty years; but with a song, you sing it out, and it soaks in people’s ears and they all jump up and down and sing it with you, and then when you quit singing it, it’s gone, and you get a job singing it again.” –Woody Guthrie

Heart’s Place Shelter is an overnight shelter for the homeless in Baltimore City, located in St. John’s Church on 27th and St. Paul St. It is run almost entirely through donations and contributions.

“Hard Hittin’ Songs for Hard Hit People” started last year as a Roots Music show based loosely around the spirit of the often homeless troubadour Woody Guthrie. A warm, communal evening for performers and audience alike, the evening raised $2,000 for the shelter, and saw 250 in attendance.

On March 11, 2006, “Hard Hittin’ Songs” returns, featuring an exciting line-up of local and regional Hard Hitters:

Ned Oldham’s Anomoan brings their critically acclaimed Appalachian Rock. Writer, Director, Actor, and all-around Dynamo Michael Patrick Smith returns to the ring to ensure a round of haymakers. Longtime Hampden hero, now New Yorker, Drew Nelson will sing his beautiful, old-world inspired ballads as The Big Huge. Caleb Stine and The Brakemen holler out their Hard Country. Old Time Music genius, Walker, will bring down the house with a whisper. And super-group Noble Lake featuring members of Long Live Death, Errant Strike, and Monarch, will bring to life the baroque worlds of James Farsgard.

So come see a great show and support a cornerstone of the community. Saturday March 11, at 7:00 PM. St. John’s Church. 2640 St. Paul St.
